Sherri - Tribal Fusion Fundamentals (10a-12p) Sherri - Tribal Fusion Bellydancer
Sherri ha s been a student of dance since the age of five with diverse experience ranging from ballet to gymnastics, jazz to modern. Her passion for Middle Eastern dance began in 1999 when she began studying with the internationally celebrated Heather Stants, director of the influential Urban Tribal Dance Co. (www.urbantribaldance.com). She soon became a full member performing with the company regularly at private events and bellydance festivals across the US.
Sherri is distinguishable in her unique serpentine stylization, an interpretation that stylistically embodies something close to bellydance contortionism. She is also an extremely physical dancer and can morph from one extreme physical state to the next in an instant. One moment she will be effortlessly floating in the air like incense smoke and throwing herself on the floor in an abrupt Turkish drop following a never ending flurry of spot turns in the next.
In addition to performing as a soloist, Sherri finds creative inspiration in collaboration with other dance companies. Her dedication, professionalism, and superb artistry has earned her a principal role with Los Angeles based Desert Sin (www.desertsin.com), a critically celebrated experimental bellydance theatre company with a cult-like following.
Prior to her (now healed) back injury, Sherri’s latest professional coup was a coveted position as the newest tribal member of the Bellydance Superstars (www.bellydancesuperstars.com), a well known internationally touring bellydance company. Sidelined from the tour in recovery for several months, Sherri decided to start her own performance company and costuming line under the moniker Cher Chez La Femme, a nickname bestowed upon her as a child by her late father.
Having relocated to Los Angeles in 2005, Sherri continues to study dance in various incarnations and teaches weekly tribal fusion dance classes at Dance Garden LA in Atwater Village. Sherri performs internationally and has been featured in several internationally distributed DVDs including ‘Bellydance Reloaded’ with Urban Tribal, IAMED's ‘Bellydance-o-Rama 3’ with Desert Sin, the 2007 EEMED performance DVD and most recently an instructional/performance DVD Tribal Fundamentals released through the Bellydance Superstars.
When she is not working on the latest Cher Chez La Femme or Desert Sin project, Sherri can be found performing as “Slither” with The Living Garden (www.thelivinggarden.com), or as the ring girl for the mini luchador wrestlers at Lucha Va Voom ( www.luchavavoom.com ). Sherri is available for group and private instruction, workshops and performance.
